A separate section,if not a separate article, about locomotives that are build to run as an electric or as a diesel electric would be useful. Peter Horn.2 ( talk) 18:40, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
Reading this article, I have no idea what the difference is between the subject and other types of trains. The article ought to be edited to highlight this difference.-- Mr. Guye ( talk) 21:19, 12 March 2017 (UTC)

The first commercially successful steam locomotive, Salamanca, might be worthy of being put as the/a main image on the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Doomotron ( talk • contribs) 00:25, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
The etymology section states that "the term locomotive engine... was first used in 1814" but it was certainly in use in 1812-1813 as evidenced by the publication of a patent Granted to William Chapman, of Murton-House, in the County of Durham, Civil Engineer, and Edward Walton Chapman, of Willington-Ropery ... Rope-maker, (dated the 30th Day of December, 1812.) for Their Invention of "a Method, Or Methods, of Facilitating the Means, and Reducing the Expence of Carriage on Railways and Other Roads." Published by the Great Britain Patent Office, 1813. It contains three instances of the term loco-motive engine https://www.google.co.uk/books/edition/Copy_of_the_Specification_of_a_Patent_Gr/jSM4AQAAMAAJ?gbpv=1 Bodrugan ( talk) 09:57, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
