Maybe it is just me but where in the Marine Corps is the M-6o still used. I don't want to delete it thinking it may be used by the Recon, SOCOM or boat guys. Anyone?-- Looper5920 09:17, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
Off-topic but, can't one of you Marine types use this:

Just for fun...

Actually they never entered service with American forces, where did you hear that they did? QZXA2 01:17, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, they've never been found in USMC armories, unless maybe some joker smuggled them in. There were a number of inaccuracies on the list (since when does the USMC use IEDs? And if we did, it wouldn't be Aircraft-mounted...) Bahamut0013 17:40, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
I reverted the edit that removed the images from the list. According to WP:LIST, there is no reason why a list can't have images. I feel that it makes the page more like an article and less like a list, because I intend to find some sources and convert it into a full-fledged article. It may look somewhat choppy now, but once I can mass some credibility beyond my own experience, I will fix that with some more prose. bahamut0013 ♠ ♣ 20:19, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
I origionally added one out of a desire to turn this list into an article. However, I realize that I don't have any sources other than my own experience, so I've removed it. I'll leave it in here, I just don't have the time to research it.
The
US Marine Corps use a variety of
weapons.
In most cases, a Marine in a combat area is armed with at least some manner of small arms. While there is a set standard of whom should be armed with what, the inventories of individual armories are the biggest factor in what in individual Marine is armed with. The vast majority of combat and non-combat troops will be armed with the M16 family of rifles, and Marines in a leadership role will often also have a pistol.
The structure of a Marine
fire team sets the standard of two riflemen (with M16 rifles), an automatic rifleman (with a M249 SAW), and squad leader with a rifle and a grenade launcher (M16 + M203). a Rifle
Squad consisting of three fireteams and a squad leader will have significant firepower available. A full platoon will usually have at least one designated marksman, who has a more accurate rifle available to him.
An infantry company will usually have a weapons platoon, which wields some machineguns, assualt (anti-armor) weaponry, and mortars. An infantry battalion will have a weapons company, which comprises of a mortar platoon, an assualt platoon, and a heavy machinegun platoon; as well as a sniper platoon from the headquarters company. A battalion will also have a small amount of shotguns available for non-lethal applications as well as breaching locked doors.
A Marine Division combines the heavy vehicle assets with the small arms available to the infantry battalion.
Generally, most Marines are issued a blade as well. Marine who do not have a rifle may recieve a KA-BAR instead of a bayonet. Marines will cary grenades as the mission dictates. They may also be issued
CS gas,
pepper spray, or other weapons as needed.
Navy medical and religious personnel attached to Marine units are usually issued pistols. Chaplains are traditionally unarmed, but a religious program specialist acts as a body guard in combat situations. Corpsmen usually do not carry rifles, but it is not uncommon amongst
Force Recon units for them to carry M4s or shotguns to use in defending a wounded Marine.
I hope someone can add some resources into my colloquial knowledge and add it to the article. bahamut0013 ♠ ♣ 20:57, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
If MARSOC uses it, then I think that it should be put on the list. 24.15.64.119 ( talk) 13:30, 20 February 2008 (UTC)Jake

I think its pretty big when SOCOM decides to replace the M4. So I'm more interested than a true "fan" having never fired the weapon. Its true that just because SOCOM adopts it, it doesn't need to be used by MARSOC. Just look at the Mk 23 pistol, MARSOC and other SOCOM operators don't even use it even though it was adopted. Still, there is a very good chance that if SOCOM picks up the SCAR it will be forced along to all the major Spec Ops forces. So I believe it belongs here.

Why is there an article on the specific weapons of the USMC but the other branches only have their mentions on the List of individual weapons of the U.S. Armed Forces? Either each branch (or at least the Army and Navy) should be covered in its own weapon list article or this should be merged into the universal list. 206.130.99.180 ( talk) 07:58, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
