The Dalai Lama first visited and made his first appearance in the United States in a trip to New York in 1979, and held his first U.S. event there at St. Patrick's Cathedral, so this page needs that inclusion.

First visit to Mongolia
His Holiness Dalai Lama visited Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia for first time in 1979. Officially receiving organization was the Mongolian Peace committee and its Chairman Dr. N.Sodnom. His Holiness participated in Asian Buddhist conference for peace (ABCP). — Preceding
