How should this list be titled? So Why 20:22, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
To hopefully avoid further moving of this article (after it has been moved twice in two hours now), I want to use this way to request more input on this simply question that unfortunately has no simple answer. The scope of this article is notable people (per WP:BIO) whose notability resulted from internet video sites (like YouTube). As such, the word "YouTube" in the title probably needs to be changed, just like the previously used word "celebrities" (the current "personalities" is not really better imho though). I hope someone has a short and concise title suggestion that nevertheless reflects the scope of this list. Regards So Why 20:22, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
I do oppose to calling this "List of Youtube personalities". While I agree with the sentiments to why "celebrity" was changed to "personality", I don't think that it's really appropriate to single out Youtube specifically. Do we have "List of..." articles for every website out there (e.g. List of Fark personalities, List of Facebook personalities, List of Slashdot personalities)? No. Even List of internet celebrities redirects to List of internet phenomena. So having a specific article for Youtube seems rather silly. WTF? ( talk) 23:14, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

I noticed he wasn't on the list. Charles is known all over youtube, he deserves to be on the list. I mean, he's #18 on most subscribed comedians of all time on youtube right now, and though he's not number one or two as I think he should be, thats still pretty impressive. http://www.youtube.com/user/charlestrippy?blend=1&ob=4 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Anonymous248 ( talk • contribs) 03:02, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Has there been any kind of standard or notability test devised by Wikipedia to decide which people merit being included in a list such as this? I think that requiring merely that they be referenced in "reliable sources" is vague and very much open to interpretation (and, therefore, dispute).-- Witan ( talk) 05:07, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I have started making several changes such as adding a list of channels including external links, very useful people who want to look at the channels of youtube celebrities. I have also added guidelines for establishing a celbrity, really should be notability, it seems to be needed given the notices on the page. Please leave feedback to any changes I make here. -- Gnepets ( talk) 06:39, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
I notice a double standard on adding KevJumba to the list. If you take a look at the requirements to be added to the list, then simply having an article that establishes notability of more then six months is enough. He became notable enough to be reviewed by a media source such as a newspaper. So in this case, KevJumba should be added to the list. Mr. C.C. ( talk) 10:55, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
This currently reads:
Because this page has been edited regularly previously here are some guideline rules that can be used in order to decide if a YouTuber is a 'celebrity' recognized on this list:
note: if you believe these rules do not correctly establish who is a celebrity or not, please got to this pages talk section.
Clearly this does not belong on display in the article as currently written. It is essentially advice/instructions for editors and is explicitly self-referential (e.g. linking to the talk page). Should it be removed altogether, or at least hidden from readers by use of <!-- ... --> ? TheGrappler ( talk) 04:55, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

The article says his Outro is "Chao Outside".
I'm a Cantonese speaker and what he's actually saying is, in english letters, "chao s-eye".
Here, "chao" means "to fry" and "s-eye" (one syllable) means "all (of)".
So he's saying "I fry you all".
Not "Chao Outside".
However, I know the first word is 炒 and the second is pronounced like Sigh.
But in Cantonese this word is only spoken, and has no written form. The written alternative is 完成 which is not what Peter Chao says.
Can someone else more fluent in Chinese come up with a solution? —Preceding unsigned comment added by TangLab ( talk • contribs) 16:25, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
No, in one of his first videos he clearly says "some of you are not understanding what i'm saying at the end of my videos... its 'Chao' as in 'Peter Chao' and 'outside' as in 'not inside'." (Rough quote)

Is not only well known on youtube but has been mentioned in the mainstream news. He is highly regarded on all sides for his 31-part (at the time of writing) video series "Why do people laugh at Creationists?" combining his skill as a professional scientist with his commitment and passion for Western secular values to debunk the various claims of fundamentalist Christianity. He has held debates on his channel between himself and fellow Atheist Richard Dawkins, and creationist clown Ray Comfort (AKA the Bananaman), and has also campaigned heavily for youtube as a free forum for ideas, and against the abuses of the system such as the DMCA takedown notice, and the use of dishonest tactics such as votebotting, false flagging and the like. The reasons why he should be included: - He meets the criteria of being sited in mainstream media, as he has been interviewed in wired magazine and the Times of London for a prediction he made about a Finnish school shooting, and is mentioned in the wikipedia article about this shooting ( http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2007/11/youtuber-warned/, http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/europe/article2848488.ece , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jokela_school_shooting). - He has close to 100,000 subscribers on Youtube (#50 Most Subscribed "Director" of ALL TIME) - He has used his "internet celebrity" to sell books he has authored. - He has expanded his internet fame into other web sites, being interviewed on several blogs. - A google search of "The Amazing Atheist" (IN QUOTES!) returns over 5 MILLION pages. - He is listed as the #96 most popular internet celebrity at iStardom.com, the only site I know about that catalogs internet celebrities. ( http://www.istardom.com/Theamazingatheist) - He has his own Encyclopedia Dramatica page (A site dedicated to internet memes, celebrities, and "famous" drama on the internet) - There is NO REASON why he shouldn't be included in the list. He is EXACTLY what we are talking about when we say 'YouTube Celebrity". He should be the POSTER BOY of this page. His IMAGE (as ugly as he is) should be at the top of this page. Can anyone give me a SINGLE REASON why his entry was removed? If not, I will add this entry again. He has a lot of enemies, which makes me think that his removal was PERSONAL rather than based on wikipedia standards. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.168.95.202 ( talk) 22:35, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

I will start by saying to Ohnoitsjamie that I am open to the possibility that this is not a good entry, but I just want to say that reverting this entry six minutes after it went up, when the videos on the first reference page last a combined total of 7 minutes and 37 seconds is disingenuous. I would hope at least that you would watch the videos attached to the article for the notability of a YouTube Personality before summarily dismissing it. NipokNek ( talk) 21:36, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

Has there been any kind of standard or notability test devised by Wikipedia to decide which people merit being included in a list such as this?

The row of "Fred" is used two times. So maybe you can delete one?

Surely Rebecca Flint (xBextahx) deserves a spot on this list - she already has her own article on here! 86.139.53.150 ( talk) 14:07, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
I remember a discussion about this guy before. He meets all the criteria for being listed on this page. For some reason, he has been removed.
Shay needs to be added to this list. No questions. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.24.105.189 ( talk) 14:46, 6 October 2009 (UTC) Sorry one question, while I agree Shay's an amazing youtuber. Isnt it better to wait until he reaches a milestone of some sort instead of just crediting him as an up and coming star? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.172.33.203 ( talk) 18:34, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
