How does this compare to List of Macintosh software? Is this only a list of apps written _by_ Apple? Peter S. 20:29, 18 December 2005 (UTC)
It looks really superfluous to me to have two lists. Let's merge them into List of Macintosh software, sorted by category, do you agree? What do we do with all those small icons? I kinda like them, but they also add clutter... Peter S. 10:11, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
List of Apple software has
{{
macproj}}
So the other page has some advantages over this one
There is a big catalogue of windows software that runs on Mac OS inside Parallels Workstation, and a whole lot of X11 apps run on Mac OS with the help of X11. But are they "Macintosh software"? I'd like to suggest that we require listed applications to run directly on Mac OS, i.e. not needing emulators, other OS or other compatibility layer enhancers like X11. We might create another list for those special cases, if anyone is interested. I suggest we make this an official policy here. Anybody disagree? Peter S. 13:03, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
There are hundreds, perhaps thousands, of additional applications available for the Macintosh. A whole category (i.e., Business and Finance) is missing. Among these are multiple products from Trendsetter Software: http://www.trendsoft.com You'll find additional products here: http://www.software4mac.com
Removed PROD. If you think this should be deleted, I suggest you start an AfD discussion. Klausness ( talk) 00:50, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
For this article to be useful at all, it should be split between the distinctly different OSes Mac OS X and Mac OS - Halo ( talk) 08:51, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
Then I'm going to boldly move this article to List of Mac OS X software, and move the other to List of Mac OS software - Halo ( talk) 12:22, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
The result of the proposal was no consensus. JPG-GR ( talk) 18:17, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
List of Macintosh software → List of Mac OS X software — Similarly, the current List of old Macintosh software will be moved to List of Mac OS software. — Halo ( talk) 12:26, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia's naming conventions.Try this again. "List of Macintosh software" is an inaccurate title, since the Macintosh is a line of computers, and a modern Macintosh computer can run other OSes including Windows or Linux. This page lists Mac OS X software, so should be renamed List of Mac OS X software. The current name does not reflect what the list actually contains, and as such should be renamed. - Halo ( talk) 17:59, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
I have been here a couple of times and have been disappointed. My father used a MAC and created some very interesting charts between 1984-1999 and I (a PC user) cannot open these files. Nor can anyone including the experts and the "repair stores" including one that has a copy of both claris works and apple works. I have done extensive research trying to find a program that he might have used - way back when. And I note this list does not include (or I am not being observant) Reunion, Ancesterial Quest etc...I had hoped to find some information on the older mac programs..
But thanks and keep up your work.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.157.146.52 ( talk) 02:16, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
Just did some cleaning: Removed dups, red links and the Font Editor section as it had only one bleu entry (and placed Fontographer under Raster and Vector section). Also, some entries have liecense, some not. Whatever I think it's a good idea too add them as it discourages promotional vandalisme. We just need to get the input homogenized. According to what there is already it would go:
* NAME - LIECENSE (free/commercial, open source/proprietary ?), EXPLICATION
PS: Please [Ctrl]+[F] before adding a new entry. There were and still are many duplicate entries. I didn't remove all because some do fit under several categories. eg. QuickTime is listed 3 times (did a diff: there are 7 lines of dups now). - Cy21( talk) 16:37, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
I am looking for software that will take an audio file as input and transcribe the contents into text. I have been googling unsuccessfully. What might be available in this category? I am using both a PP Mac and an Intel Mac.
Thanks, 99.166.121.198 ( talk) 00:41, 23 February 2012 (UTC)
This deserves major cleanup; it should be roughly equivalent to these "Recommended apps for Windows switchers to Mac" articles we see in Mac magazines (though obviously keeping in mind we're an encyclopedia, not a magazine). Inclusion criteria should be determined by lists of "most popular" or "best" Mac apps, as published in reliable sources (avoid sponsored content like the plague). A comprehensive list of all Mac apps would be neither realistic, nor useful, nor very readable. I'll start by cleaning out abandoned and discontinued apps. DFlhb ( talk) 11:02, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
Should this page list all macOS/Mac OS X apps, including discontinued ones, or just list current apps? It's slightly unclear, since "current macOS operating systems" implies discontinued early-Mac OS X apps are out. DFlhb ( talk) 00:02, 5 February 2023 (UTC)
Hey! There is a software missed. It is MuseScore. Like i have MuseScore in my mac, why would you don't include this? TheRedsAreMarching1223 13:39, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
