To-do list for List of Ghost in the Shell characters:
|
Compared to the corresponding page on Anime News Network, I have found three inconsistencies in this article, all involving voice actors - one in English and two Japanese: 1.) Aramaki, in the Japanese dub, is played by a different actor for the two theatrical films: in these films (1995 and 2004), the actor is Tamio Ohki, not Osamu Saka, who voiced him in the series and SSS, but is credited here for portraying Aramaki in all continuities; 2.) In Innocence, in the Japanese dub, Azuma was played by Masaki Terasoma, not Masahiro Ogata, who played him in the series and SSS, and is credited with playing Azuma in all continuities here; 3.) Ishikawa’s voice actor in the first film, in English, was Michael Sorich, not Bob Papenbrook as credited here.
Then again, as I understand it, ANN is also user-edited, just like Wikipedia. So it’s possible that on any of these listings (and many others, for that matter), Wikipedia may be correct and ANN wrong! Somebody with extensive experience in GITS (and/or enough time on his/her hands) should verify these, even if it just means reading the end credits off the TV screen from the DVDs, and then update Wikipedia as applicable.
Also: can't we have some character information about the (albeit almost never seen) friends and family of Section 9's members? I'm thinking here in particular of Aramaki's old flame in England, Togusa's wife and children, and the young women who Motoko lives with. [NB: Atsuko Tanaka has confirmed, in at least one DVD extra, what has been strongly hinted at onscreen: her character, at least in the SAC storyline, is bisexual, and that Kurutan and Ran are her lovers in an open-ended relationship. On the other hand, she's in a relationship with a boyfriend in the manga; both situations should be commented on.] 67.87.34.107 ( talk) 22:29, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
I propose that the following articles are proposed to be merged into one point. The reamining character articles (of considerable legnth) will be summarized on this page. WP:FICTION mentions that articles on minor characters should reside in lists of characters and that major characters should be sumarized on the main list. If there are no objections, this will be completed on this coming Sunday. -- Kunzite 19:27, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
Article list:
Yes, but just like the Laughing Man, the Individual Eleven play a large part as an antagonist oriented characters, thus this merger is a wise move.
-Merge it. Nothing would be lost from a grouping of the characters into one larger category. It will be more efficient with the merger. -Alex
This sounds like a great idea, and I shall start merging... right about... now... -- Ned Scott 11:18, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
I started to merge just the shorter articles for now. I'm not sure what to do with Saito (Ghost in the Shell), since I'm not even sure how much of his info is accurate (the Pre-WWIII story.., it's not that we shouldn't include the info, but maybe say that it might not possibly be what really happened?). Also, the ones that just say "see also" should still at least have a short description in addition to linking to the larger article. -- Ned Scott 11:39, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
Please stop any merging. Consensus not reached —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Energman ( talk • contribs) .
In the Bio Android's page he is listed as Frodo instead of Proto, and honestly while watching the show his name sounded like Frodo not Proto or maybe Phrodo or something to that affect. It would be nice to have a link in his character page connecting to a legitimate source with his name written.
"Proto", as in "Prototype" AFAIK. Remember that no one except Aramaki seemed to know that Proto was an android until near the end of 2nd Gig. Nijyo 08:12, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
In my humble opinion we should have a main page with all the characters. The more important and the others. Then if necessary a character take a link to a singular character page.We should decide wish are the main characters and give more espace for them in this main page.A reader should see a complete list of characters in this main page with some text.If he wants to know more than he goes to the character page. 21:42 09 December 2006
In "Human Error Processor" issue 3 Togusa is shown lifting and preparing to fire a very large gun without assistance. Does anyone know if it was ever established definitively in the manga continuity that Togusa is fully human except for his cyberbrain? (it's established in the GitS movie and more or less established in SAC, I know) Nijyo 08:16, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
Reading his description, in what way is it depicted that he dislikes the Major? I've seen both series and both movies, and never did I think they were at odds with each other. (I confess I havn't read the manga, so if it's there... I apologize.) He just seems to have a "gruff" personality...
Shouldn't it be described that Ishikawa is simply burdened with old age instead of saying that he's weak?
--- Ishikawa, with his arm in a cast, from a seated position, knocks out an agent who's pointing a gun at him in SAC 2nd Gig episode 26. If that's burdened, then I'd say age has been pretty good to him. Rockear
Reading the article, it indicates that Ishikawa knows the Major's dislikes, rather than disliking her. In the first manga, it's stated that he's her XO (yes, that does mean he outranks Batou), so I doubt he dislikes her. Oni no Akuma 14:25, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

While looking at this list, I get the feeling this is more of a "SAC characters list". For one, all the images are taken from there. It features minor characters from that series (Yano, Kayabuki), that don't appear in the other formats. There are other pages on wikipedia about people (Ghouda, Kuze, project 2501, to name a few), yet they don't appear on this list? Finally, I can think of three recurring characters that are in the Manga+Movie (I don't remember their names though, sorry):
Not that I'm complaining about the article, but there being only 1 "Other" Character in all of GITS univers, and the most important one being Kayabuki? I don't think so. happypal ( Talk | contribs) 03:38, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
Do we really need that? Only one of them is dead, and he's an almost side character. Same foes for the "active" Status. I say remove them, and mention it if they have a special status, in the text. happypal ( Talk | contribs) 16:59, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
Is there any info on Qwer (Aramaki's assistant? Although Batou refers to her as his superior...) from Human Error Processor? The only thing I've been able to find that mentions her is this page in Italian. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Genpfault ( talk • contribs) 06:17, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
It's mentioned (in narration) at the end of the first chapter in the original manga (English [Dark Horse], p.12) that Kusanagi's actual identity is unknown and that she may in fact be multiple women. It's the only mention of this in the entire series, but it seems significant and should be added to her profile. (It could also establish some canon as to why she looks different in each series.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thatfield977 ( talk • contribs) 17:47, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
According to the TVRage page on Episode 2 of SAC, calling Aramaki "the old ape" (or baboon, in the dub) is a direct reference to the nickname he's given by section 9 members in the manga. The text of that comment is as follows:
:Batou calling the Chief "the old baboon" (the Japanese seiyuu calls him "old ape") is the same way that the members of Section 9 speak of the Chief, in their own affectionate way, in the 1991 Ghost in the Shell manga by Shirō Masamune. Batou is the first person to call Aramaki by that moniker in the manga chapter entitled "SUPER SPARTAN".
Of course, TVRage is probably not an acceptable source, so I'll refrain from editing the article's parenthetical on him alleging that this might be because of Shiro Masamune's art style making Aramaki look rather ape-like. Anyone who has access to the manga is welcome to verify this statement and put a proper citation in - the current parenthetical implies it's a SAC-exclusive nickname. 24.69.206.90 ( talk) 11:16, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
