When a country is "the largest" according to some parameter in the world, then perhaps we can omit the "largest in Asia" attribute, which will be automatically implied. So, for example, For China, the "Facts" column currently reads, "Largest country by population in Asia as well as in the world." which we can safely change to "Largest country by population in the world." Same will be true for Kazakhstan "Largest landlocked country in Asia and in the world." --> "Largest landlocked country in the world.", and so forth. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:4041:40E3:A600:4983:8FCF:DB0A:DA0 ( talk) 04:07, 21 January 2023 (UTC)
A recent edit included a mention of Yemen's size including African territory. I had a quick look at Yemen and Geography of Yemen, where the apparent info of both indicated the country is fully in Asia. Both pages had however also been subjected to vandalism today, with references to Asia being replaced by clearly incorrect references to Africa. I reverted those edits and somewhat by association went on to revert the claim on this page about Yemen's African area. I did note however that Yemen mentions without further specification the country is transcontinental. List of transcontinental countries#Asia_and_Africa goes on to claim the Socotra archipelago is in Africa rather than Asia, which from visual inspection of a map seems reasonable; there is no source provided. However, even if this is correct, the area of Socotra (3,796 km2) is presumably already included in the given area of Yemen, so the correct way to show that would be to list the nation's Asian area as 524,190 km2 (527,968 km2 - 3,796 km2), and then give the total area in the comment. I'm reluctant to do this myself without a source, but wanted to place this note here to say the edits I reverted on this page may have had some merit after all. Maybe there should be a column for percentage area of Asia (like there is in the article for Asian countries by population)
Can the list be made sortable? 173.88.246.138 ( talk) 18:24, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
Are these territories part of Asia? If they are, why are they excluded from the list? 1.64.48.231 ( talk) 16:42, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
Taiwan is not a disputed territory but a country. Please make sure the CCP doesn't completely take over Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.183.253.43 ( talk) 15:57, 1 April 2022 (UTC)
Indonesia is around 1.9 m sq km which is larger than Iran which makes it number 6 and Iran number 7 Nlivataye ( talk) 13:49, 17 April 2022 (UTC)
I have done a thorough update of the table. Many changes had been requested. I added sources, a percentage column, two territories (more may be added), noted how the area figures include only area in Asia, and added notes about the total area. I also removed some facts unrelated to both area and geography in general, and changed the lead to have more interesting facts (more could be added).
I was inclusive when calculating area in Asia, but went down to the district level (below provinces) when I could. Rather than list every province that was included or excluded, I simply counted the districts when a list would be too verbose.
As the table is now very slim, I also added a map. This update is similar to the one I did for Africa. Please comment if any further improvements should be made or if I made any mistakes. Wizmut ( talk) 21:42, 31 May 2023 (UTC)
Different sources place Georgia either in Asia or Europe entirely, or even a small part in Europe and mostly in Asia. But I have found no source that both splits the country and gives details on the area in each continent. Even worse, the part most likely to be European is also contested. I am posting this in case this reaches 190.232.70.57. Please discuss any points you have here, rather than removing countries that have long been included.
Russia is included in this list because it has territory in Asia, namely North Asia aka Siberia. There are many other transcontinental countries in this list, such as Turkey, Kazakhstan and Indonesia. Only their Asia area is listed on the table, with the total area noted in the respective note.
If these countries were not included, large portions of Asia would be missing. Models which divide the world into continents do not exclusively consider which countries own which lands. Indeed, they mostly ignore sovereign borders and use long-standing tradition and geography.
This criteria is not perfect, but it is much easier to satisfy than first asking what culture a country belongs to, and trying to find a consensus there. There is very little agreement on whether Turkey, for example, is culturally European or otherwise. Wizmut ( talk) 05:36, 20 July 2023 (UTC)

I looked but could not find a nice neat clear map of Asia that pointed out all those locations one may have forgotten about, especially Russia. I found one that was close: [4], but the borders are misleading, according to the most common definition.
A similarly almost-right map exists at Asia#Political_geography, but again the borders have small errors. And it really doesn't read well in dark mode.
Maybe readers of this list should already know where Asia is, but a lot of them don't because they forget about North Asia. Or maybe there could be an explanation section similar to List_of_European_countries_by_area#Definition.
But I'm not very good at making maps, so these are just suggestions. Wizmut ( talk) 21:26, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
