Invariability of "شيكل"?

Some foreign words that designate weights and measures such as […] šēkel ( shekel) […] are invariable. contradicts wikt:شيكل#Noun. And I'm pretty sure that I've heard a dual شيكلين in Jerusalem as well. Maybe it can be used as both variable and invariable (depending e.g. on the speaker)?
