I checked the WWI campaign medals for Dawe on the off-chance, not really expecting to find anything since school teaching was a reserved occupation. However, http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/details-result.asp?Edoc_Id=2285387 shows that a Leonard Sydney Dawe did serve, first as a lieutenant in the 1/4th Battalion, Hampshire Regiment (which would make a certain amount of sense given his Southampton connections), and then as a captain with the St Paul's School Officer Training Corps, which again as a teacher makes a certain amount of sense. These details can be freely seen fromt ehl ink above, looking at the card itself, which will normally require a fee, I can see that this man served in the Mesopotamia Campaign from September 1917.
On a different note, I dimly recall the stuff about the keywords turning up in a TV drama doc/reconstruction, maybe broadcast to coincide with the 50th anniversary of D-Day. David Underdown ( talk) 11:58, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
