2017-present

Without relevant source it is difficult to resolve the following statement so have removed: November 17, Ledisi won her second consecutive Soul Train Award under the Soul Certified Award, being the first artist to win it two years in a row.

Section already states Ledisi was 2017 winner so does this relate to 2018 win?

Also, could add that in August 2019 Ledisi and Lisa Fischer were the main singers in the 2019 BCC Prom: Homage to Nina Simone. 79.74.156.161 ( talk) 13:20, 16 September 2019 (UTC)JDE reply

Last name

To clarify, Ledisi’s last name is Pierce. Her academic documents like yearbooks list her as Ledisi Pierce. It matches considering she took on the name of her stepfather Joseph Pierce after he adopted her when he married her mother. No one in her family’s last name is “Young” so that can not be her birth surname. Furthermore, the man that Ledisi is currently married to, his last name is Young. While I’m still researching it, I think her previous husband’s last name was also Young. Sackkid ( talk) 09:28, 8 June 2024 (UTC) reply

What you say may turn out to be true. But you need to back up the claim with a reliable source, especially for a biography of a living person. I added a ref from the NYT which says her birth surname is Young, and the existing AllMusic ref says the same thing. Also, a birth surname is different than an adoptive surname. Please don't change this information again, until your research finds a reliable source to back up your claim. Thanks. NOLA1982 ( talk) 15:38, 8 June 2024 (UTC) reply
The only source out there is this. https://www.allhighschools.com/alumni-search/skyline-senior-high-school/ledisi-pierce/5450944 Sackkid ( talk) 17:21, 8 June 2024 (UTC) reply
Also, your source doesn’t say it is her birth name. It just says it is her name. Now she is married, her name would be Ledisi Young. Sackkid ( talk) 17:24, 8 June 2024 (UTC) reply
Quoting from the New York Times article: "Born Ledisi Young in New Orleans, she comes from a long line of Black musicians."
I would not consider the source you provided to be a reliable source. NOLA1982 ( talk) 17:46, 8 June 2024 (UTC) reply
I am not disputing that her adoptive surname is Pierce; the existing article implies that already. But the issue is birth surname and the NYT article is a pretty reliable source for that claim. If you can find a reliable source for her adoptive surname, that would be good information to add to the Early life paragraph about her adoption. NOLA1982 ( talk) 17:54, 8 June 2024 (UTC) reply
So I found out that Ledisi's last name is Young. Her mother's maiden name is Young. But when her mother married Joseph Pierce, she took on his last name. Sackkid ( talk) 21:18, 8 June 2024 (UTC) reply
Thanks for the update. NOLA1982 ( talk) 21:20, 8 June 2024 (UTC) reply
I also found out her first husband's name is Robert Rhodes but I'm not adding that in there. As I wrote, it was not publicly disclosed and I don't think it is necessary especially he is not a public figure. Plus there is no actual source in which she mentions him further.
