Apparently the reason we can't add the image of John Smith from his article is that images should only be used in one Wikipedia article. However there are plenty of other examples of this rule being broken - not least the picture of Keir Starmer being used here which is the same as the one in his own article. The difference is that the image of Keir Starmer is freely licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported license meaning it is a "free image". The article doesn't say but one assumes that there is not a fixed period between elections. It might be worth noting that only Keir Hardie, George Barnes, William Adamson and Ramsay MacDonald had become Labour leader without any previous roles in the party, prior to Jeremy Corbyn.
