We seem to be in a bit of an edit war on this minor point. The New York Times has reported the facts as stated. Removing them because you know better means you are removing a reputable cite and replacing it with your own local knowledge. That is to say you are doing your own research. That is not what Wikipedia is. We use conventional, secondary, sources to publish an encyclopedia. I propose we might find some some compromise wording, or perhaps you could find some press or government report that we can use to reference your personal knowledge.
