Is that realy the right translation for "Küstenschutz"? I would think "coast protection" or "coastal preservation" are more fitting here.

Why? Coastal defence is a pretty standard term e.g. see
Coastal defence of the UK by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, or
Coastal defense: New thinking needed. by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature. --
