Geschwaderkommodore in German Luftwaffe WW 2 and Luftwaffe Bundeswehr
The commander of the largest flying Luftwaffe unit, a Wing aka Jagdgeschwader, was also called commodore, short for wing commander or "Geschwaderkommodore". It's not a rank but a title. Commodore officers usually ranked from Capt to Col, depending on their experiences and skills. It's still in use in our modern Luftwaffe of the German Bundeswehr. So, not Navy exclusive. — Preceding
