On 8 January 2024, it was proposed that this article be moved from Khmelnytskyi, Ukraine to Khmelnytskyi. The result of the discussion was moved. |
Was this city actually founded in 1493, or is that when it was first mentioned? Greenshed 16:28, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
The economy sections are too detailed and also read a bit like an advertisement for investors. Andries ( talk) 00:17, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
Vvolodymyr ( talk) 03:16, 24 September 2008 (UTC) First mentioned. But this is used to count years for city celebrations. When it was mentioned it was still called Ploskyriv (ukr. Плоскирів) literally meaning shallowditch and/or from the name of the river on which's bank it was situated - river Ploska (ukr. Плоска) meaning shallow. It was a wooden town - then there was a great fire - and the people resettled on the other bank.
Anyways - I just saw the article. One of these days (LOL) I'm gonna have to update stuff and add some sources etc.
CheerZ!

@ Johnpacklambert: please WP:BRD and don’t WP:WAR. [1] [2] This category is appropriate. It is common practice in the field of history and in civic commemorations to consider the date of first historic mention as a date of foundation, as you can see by example in the sources cited here regarding the date, and also it is consensus practice to treat this as such in Wikipedia. This is reflected in countless articles’ infoboxes and −categorization.
As this article is a WP:DS topic area, please don’t start a revert war over it. Furthermore, I believe this is WP:POINTY editing, as you’re only doing it to smooth your related CFD request, but it’s likely to backfire. It is also beyond what you recently described as “disruptive behaviour” to help get your way over there. Please revert back to the consensus version and let’s discuss it here. — Michael Z. 18:23, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
Examples of the principle of cities’ customary founding dates include:
I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the rule rather than the exception. Even when a city has a documented formal founding event and date, it is often because it is already a de facto populated place. — Michael Z. 19:13, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
Category:1431 establishments in Ukraine has been nominated for upmerging. A discussion is taking place to decide whether this proposal complies with the categorization guidelines. In Lithuanian it means the place where something is separated, like Bug is Baiga in Lithuanian and means "the end/final river" 86.38.75.174 ( talk) 14:48, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

Khmelnytskyi, Ukraine → Khmelnytskyi – WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Khmelnytskyi already redirects to this page anyway. I would make this an uncontroversial technical request but the fact that this page is so old and for such a major city makes me uncertain enough to make it an RM.
