• "Ntlo-Kholo assumed the reigns until Mokotjo came of age." (I think you mean "reins", as in control of a horse or kingdom. You might be more specific and replace "reigns" with "chieftainship" or "leadership".)
• "...effectively took over the reign from his mother." (Same as above.)
