This appears to be in obvious contradiction to the information provided in
lt:1938 m. Lietuvos Respublikos Prezidento rinkimai. However, this statement is sourced. How can this contradiction be explained? @

Fair point. It might be incorrect to state that he became a presidential candidate. The sources claim that he was rather strongly promoted by Lithuanian intelligentsia and certain organisations to become a presidential candidate, but it's not really clear whether he officially announced it. Pakštas might have considered it as it's mentioned that he gave a political speech on establishing a new government. However, he probably did not go very far as Lithuania was an authoritarian regime since 1926.
