Should this page be merged into Mount Everest? Or is the concern that the Everest article is too long? Also, the picture is a little misleading (even though it is correctly labeled as the North Face). I would say no picture is better than the one currently here. -- Spireguy 16:40, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
I'm not sure how the 1988 expedition was more of a "landmark" than the first (1981) ascent of the Kangshung Face. The 1981 was a pretty impressive feat unto itself. It sounds as though the author of this just finished Venables book. -- csearl 15:51, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
"..and Buddhist reverence for the mountains prohibiting their ascent.. oh no. It's over sophisticated. Partially, and with very special meaning to some single mountains ascending was forbidden. Not for Chomo Longma, "Mother Goddess of Earth". The Lama of Rongpu monastery was pleased everytime when the english approached the mountain saying that they were on a "pilgrim way" to Mother Goddess of Earth. For the buddhist people in tibet there was simply no need to approach to any area where there grew nothing and no animals could exist. -- 80.145.210.143 ( talk) 03:11, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
A disambiguation page is needed for George Lowe (mountaineer) versus the other George Lowes. 171.66.84.125 ( talk) 00:43, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
A different George Lowe, from the USA, redlinked as George Lowe (climber). He will eventually get an article as he is quite noteworthy, I just have not gotten to it yet. Ratagonia ( talk) 01:13, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
The 1988 climb of the Kangshung Face to the South Col emphatically was a landmark in Everest history, as it was completed by a small team - just 4 climbers - and without the use of supplementary oxygen. It ranks with Reinhold Messner's solo ascent via a partially new route on the North Face in 1980 and the Australian's first ascent of the Great Couloir (North Face) in 1984 as the "best" ascent in terms of style, and surpasses both in terms of technical difficulty. And it is wrong, as the article states, that Anderson, Teare and Webster got to the South Col. True, Teare retreated from the col due to cerebral edema, but Webster and Anderson got to the South Summit, or very close to it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.62.145.64 ( talk) 15:47, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
