Most dogs have predators, but this one can apparently take on any land predator within its range. Although predation is not its purpose, this is part of its defense against other large predators, some of which regularly hunt dogs. This dog is an exception. Pbrower2a ( talk) 02:29, 7 May 2022 (UTC)
The UK Kennel Club seems to refer to the Kangal as the Turkish Kangal Dog, while the American Kennel Club calls it the Anatolian Shepherd Dog, and gives Kangal, Goban Kopegi, and Anatolian Karabash as alternative names. Neither "Turkish Kangal" nor "Kurdish Kangal" provide any valid ngram results, but "Turkish Kangal" gives me 3,000,000 Google hits versus about 150,000 for "Kurdish Kangal". On that basis, it doesn't seem reasonable to remove "Turkish Kangal" as an alternative name on grounds of WP:NPOV. Jean-de-Nivelle ( talk) 16:09, 16 October 2022 (UTC)
Since Anatolian Shepherd Dog redirects here and a major kennel club thinks it's the same thing as the Kangal, this (and the controversy) should be more prominently covered at the top of the article. I've added a line for starters. Jpatokal ( talk) 11:00, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
