I don't know this story, but if it is alleged that it was suppressed can we at least please have the citation for who alleged it and why the claim might be controversial? -- Dannyno 19:23, 27 September 2005 (UTC)
This entry does not do justice McCabe's violent and vitriolic anti-Catholicism. I'm not Catholic, but this entry is a white-wash of a man whose life seems to have been fueled by an uncontrolled hatred for Catholicism.
I have deleted the "anti-catholicism" category from the article. The category explanation, if you look it up, says: "This is a category for organizations, theories, books, individuals, etc. who are notable for their connection to Anti-Catholicism. Adding this category to an article does not necessarily mean to imply that the subject of the article is anti-Catholic. The category also contains subjects that have documented or opposed anti-Catholicism and subjects that have been accused by notable individuals or organizations of engaging in anti-Catholicism." The reason I have deleted the category is because there is nothing at all in the article to connect McCabe to anti-Catholicism. Until there is, I cannot see a justification for the categorisation. So, again, if contributors have something they wish to write on this topic, please do so. But don't categorise until the article deserves it. -- Dannyno 20:02, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
I might have missed it but I couldn't find a reference to one of McCabe's writings called "Horrors of the Inquisition". It is from 1926 and was one of the "Little Blue Books". Nickyfann ( talk) 21:22, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Would it be worth strengthening "He claimed that the 14th edition, which had been published in 1929, was devoid of the critical comment about the church that had been in the 11th edition."? It seems to be a fairly well-established fact that the 14th edition was a lot less critical of Catholic institutions than the 11th; Harvey Einbinder had some pretty sharp comments about the whitewashing of some popes, among other issues to point, and I've seen references to Catholic authors proud of the editing tossed about.-- Prosfilaes ( talk) 04:16, 29 November 2009 (UTC)
Are there studies by psychologists or from the standpoint of personal psychology and life history of Joseph McCabe, which seek to determine the causes why persons like Joseph McCabe who left the Christian faith do not just afterwards live a quiet peaceful and normal life just like other people who never knew the Christian faith, but they go into campaigns to discredit the Christian faith and Christians and Christendom.
I always think that some unhappy experiences must have occurred with these persons to make them in effect full of grudges against God, the Christian faith, Christians, and Christendom.
Such studies will be most helpful in the spiritual and pastoral guidance to help Christians of all kinds and classes to not harbor grudges even should they not remain in the Christian faith but leave it for reasons of having arrived at cognitive certainty of there being no God and the Christian faith is false.
Of course it cannot be denied that if such people who left the Christian faith take up with campaigns hostile to the Christian faith from their zeal to enlighten other peoples to do likewise because they owe it to their sense of service to fellowmen, I think they deserve the understanding of their former colleagues who remain loyal to the Christian faith.
Just the same, I like to remain them to not be so overwhelmingly zealous as to neglect a normal life of the ordinary folks who never knew the Christian faith but seek to live a as much as possible a peaceable happy existence in the midst of similar folks in the world.
