I have restored the category to the article after WilliamJE ( talk · contribs) removed it. McCaa is obviously a member of people born in or otherwise closely associated with the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas metropolitan area. McCaa is on the 3 weekday evening local news broadcasts as co-host for the region. In addition to having been associated with the station for nearly 30 years, it is patently obvious that the category is appropriate. I am bringing this discussion forward in accordance with the Discuss step of BRD. Hasteur ( talk) 20:10, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
*3OD Editor. If the 'metroplex' category is being collapsed, does this mean there will be NO greater Dallas-Ft. Worth category? Why? Was this a Bold decision, or is there consensus? Looking at WP:Category#People from the Quad Cities or other metropolitan areas that consist of more than one delineated town (Minneapolis/St Paul comes to mind) - what is the value in erasing the larger category? Drilling down is useful, but not at the cost of losing what makes sense. EBY ( talk) 04:20, 21 June 2013 (UTC)

Per categorization guidelines, "...if a page belongs to a subcategory of C (or a subcategory of a subcategory of C, and so on) then it is not normally placed directly into C." If the exact location of a person's residence is unknown but it is known that the person resides in a wider area (higher level category), then the person should be listed in the higher category until more specific information is available from a reliable source. John McCaa is known to live in Irving in Dallas County, Texas. |
