The office of Illinois Treasurer is one of the elective, constitutional offices of the state of Illinois. John F. Smulka served as Illinois Treasurer for 2 years and would be considered notable. I cleaned up his article and looked him up on ancestry.com, as well as the cited Tribune article online, since I was troubled by the apparent misspelling in the previous note. At the risk of seeming snooty, the "a" ending on Polish surnames indicates female. I have seen his name, however, spelled both "Smolski" and "Smulski".
