What is the "Internal Revenue Department of HM Treasury"? "Internal Revenue" - for example, the IRS - is an American thing.

I believe Ward's father was a clerk with the Inland Revenue (see the London Gazette for 2 May 1911, Issue 28490, page 3340 [1]). As Ward's memoirs indicate, his father worked at Somerset House, where the Inland Revenue were based for many years, and his office was evacated to North Wales ( Llandudno, I believe) during the Second World War.

Ward says: "I was born in East Ham, London, son of Joseph William Ward, minor civil servant employed in the Internal Revenue Department of H. M. Treasury" [2] I have corrected the article. Hawkeye7 ( talk) 20:13, 13 February 2017 (UTC) reply
