Evans owned the copyright to
An Adventure (1911), the best-selling account of a time-slip back to revolutionary days in the gardens of Versailles by two Oxford scholars, Charlotte Anne Moberly and Eleanor Jourdain. She suppressed this book herself after Robert de Montesquiou convinced her that the ladies had actually witnessed a rehearsal for a costume party, and that it was not a time-slip.
