According to the French Ministry of Armed Forces site (Chemins de Méoire), Suard spent some time in the Fort Royal prison of
Île Sainte-Marguerite before eventually becoming the eternal secretary of the
Académie Française. However, I am hoping this fact could be double-checked, as it seems such an unusual thing to have happened.
