The lead gives "cypher" as an alternative to "jam session"; I can find no other reference or usage for this term outside some mentions of "cipher" as a hip-hop event (which even then seems not to have become general usage). I am going to remove this word from the lead; if someone can come up with an informed way to mention the term elsewhere in the article feel free. Jgm ( talk) 13:26, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
The first few paragraphs are a bit off putting. I am sure that the first and most accurate meaning of "Jam Session" is the musical version. The first couple of paragraphs should be put in a different article. As a matter of fact, I cry Shenanigans on the first several paragraphs. Seems like a bit of tomfoolery to me... 63.167.255.151 ( talk) 03:26, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
Whole article just seems to be examples of bands that play improvised music. It does not explain how the term "jam" arose or provide any background on when the term was first used. Really, the whole thing could get reorganised into a list of jam bands awaiting a much improved entry for "jam" itself. 188.220.56.222 ( talk) 09:41, 24 August 2012 (UTC)
