This article is written in British English, which has its own spelling conventions (colour, travelled, centre, defence, artefact, analyse) and some terms that are used in it may be different or absent from other varieties of English. According to the relevant style guide, this should not be changed without broad consensus. |
I've always believed the assault was used more of an excuse to remove powers rather then being the real reason for the removal of powers. Anyone else agree and can find a reference? N.B. I'm not denying Sultan Iskandar is a violent, arrogant idiot who should never have been Sultan let alone agong and that allowing Sultans to be prosecuted is a good thing... Nil Einne 16:02, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
I don't know who the heck wrote this article but I do know that it's very low in quality. This paragraph for example:
"While he was Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Iskandar created further controversy by assaulting a golf caddy. A soldier, the brother of the caddy who was badly injured (??? - did he survive???)'Bold text', subsequently ran amok in Kuala Lumpur causing a security scare. The soldier was later arrested and sent to a mental hospital."
Apart from the poor writing quality, the statement itself lacks referance albeit being a well-known story among Malaysians..
This articles has some comments that is without citation. Take for example the sentence where the Sultan of Johore and Dr mahathir collaborated to sack Tun Salleh Abas. No citation was given, and it is quite illogical that these two figures that seem to hate each other would actually work together —Preceding unsigned comment added by 161.142.24.130 ( talk) 02:02, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
Twice the same phrase was added to the paragraph within these few days: [1] and [2]. The new phrase, "In 1956, Tunku Iskandar married a Cornish lady by the name of Josephine Trevorrow, with whom he had four children, including the crown prince, Tunku Ibrahim Ismail. The marriage ended with divorce in 1962, his bad temper and frequent abuses were the main reasons.", citing Mads lange fra bali, Andressen, pg 123, I did not notice that anywhere was this "bad temper" issue was raised. Contentious facts can be removed as per Wikipedia:Citing_sources#Dealing_with_citation_problems.
The problem is, these are edited by annonymous editors. Since much of the content is rather libelious and would require solid citations to back up, if in any case the editor insist that this phrase is in the book, can you please type out the phrase--I know its in Danish---that cites his "bad temper" issue? Adding scandalous info without solid basis for citation--and inserting into it as if it is cited would be against Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons#Basic_human_dignity and [ [3]]. "his bad temper and frequent abuses were the main reasons..."
Hi Mr Tan,
I was the anonymous user who added the above phrase in the article on Johor's Sultan Iskandar. The reason why I added it is because I felt that there is a likelihood of truth for the divorce of Sultan Iskandar and Josephine Trevorrow. If you feel that the above phrase is libellous you may have it removed.
By the way, I would like to thank and salute you for the nice work done on the Johor royalty. I wonder where did you obtain all the information?
I would be grateful if you could find information or articles on the past abuses of Sultan Ibrahim and highlight it in the article. This would be rather difficult as it happened such a long time ago. Perhaps,you could find some archival newspaper articles written by Dato Onn titled "Tyranny in Johore" where he exposed the misdeeds of the ruler especially in the ill treatment of the JMF personnel. He was banished from the state as a result and it was quite a long time before Sultan Ibrahim forgave him. 60.50.228.148 ( talk) 01:38, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

I would like to thank and salute you for the nice work done on the Johor royalty. I wonder how did you manage to obtain all the information?
It would be interesting if you could find information or articles on the past abuses and controversies of the late Sultan Ibrahim and highlight it in the article as there were rumors among the older Johoreans that he was yet another tyrannical ruler like his grandson, Sultan Iskandar. This would be rather difficult as it happened such a long time ago. Perhaps,you could find some archival newspaper articles written by Dato Onn titled Tyranny in Johore where he exposed the misdeeds of the ruler especially in the ill treatment of the JMF personnel. He was banished from the state around 1927 as a result and it was quite a long time before Sultan Ibrahim forgave him. 118.100.108.50 ( talk) 08:49, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
Hmm...interesting fact, but Ive never heard of it before.
Let me elaborate how I find my facts: A combination of amateur research in my local library and Google books, whereby you can lift off phrases of books by googling phrases which you might think off. On your part, perhaps you can say ["Dato Onn" tyranny] in the google search box in Google books, and see if you can see any research material into it. As for me, I would give it a try, but I cant possibly commit to your requests.
However, if you might be interested in contributing, while such astounding facts might be interesting to contribute, nevertheless all ediotrs, whatever their sentiments and affiliations, must have a Wikipedia:NPOV neutral and objective viewpoint. Any sources that may be contributed, should usually conform to Wikipedia:Verifiability and Wikipedia:Citing sources. There are many more policies and guidelines in wikipedia, but these are some which I find it useful. As you can see in Sultan iskandar's article--just because he committed notorious deeds, it does not mean that we should be outright labelling him as a "gangster" or "murderer", unless if there are outright facts--of course, we cannot quote from trivia websites or blogspots--it would only violate the policies and guidelines. If possible, try to balance it off with the brighter side of a person, for reasons of Wikipedia:NPOV neutrality--after all, Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons#Basic_human_dignity, right?
Anyway, I see if I have the time I will see to your request--but take note of my advice when editing, for the Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit would blatantly revert edits--which is unpleasant, partly given that many do not have good knowledge of local affairs such as Johor. Have fun! Mr Tan ( talk) 12:54, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
I will be also editing on the lead section--but I ask that you give me a little time. If you think that some more work may be needed to get a GA, please do not hesitate to let me know, and I will be happy to work things out. Thanks! Mr Tan ( talk) 10:43, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

. We cannot have one rule for Asian monarchs and one for European monarchs. As an example, just because someone has a PhD, does not mean that the article title should have 'Dr.', even if the person may often be reffered as this; and again, we do not have one rule for Asian and one for European PhD-academics.
I have moved the article, after agreement during the Good Article review, from Sultan Iskandar of Johor to Iskandar of Johor. The rationale is based on Wikipedia:Naming conventions (names and titles), which applies to all Western and Islamic monarchs (and thus also Malaysian).
Pre-emptively disambiguate the names of kings, queens regnant, and many emperors and empresses regnant in the format "{Monarch's first name and ordinal} of {Country}", omitting the royal or imperial titles. Examples: Edward I of England; Alfonso XII of Spain; Henry I of France.
All articles on Wikipedia should follow their respective naming conventions. Disagreement about the naming convention itself should be discussed on at Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (names and titles), rather than here. Arsenikk (talk) 09:43, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
There is a template {{
Iskandar_ancestry}}
used to generate the tree ancestry tree on this page. As this template is only used by this page, it causes a level of complexity for editing the article that is unnecessary and most probably confusing for editors who are not familiar with translucent templates. Because the template could be used on other pages, it needs to have all its references local to the template so that any article that includes the template also includes the sources for the tree in the template.
The simple solution to this problem is to move the visible content of the template onto this page and redirect the template the the ancestry section of this artile. This will allow a history of the edits to the tree to be kept (in the template) but will allow the tree to be fully integrated into this article including the citations in the template. If someone chooses to do this the please make sure to properly attribute the edit that moves the table content here (see WP:copying within Wikipedia for how to do this) -- PBS ( talk)
