"The man who Yip Man competed against was beaten within a few strikes"
Means the opposite of what really happened. I've changed this to:
"The man who Yip Man competed against beat him with a few strikes."

Ok so this is a controversial change I'm proposing, however I think having the article "Ip Man" and redirecting "Yip Man" to it would be more accurate. The man in question used Ip Man as the name in his passport and his son Ip Ching takes Ip (the family name) as his, and wrote a biography for Ip Man with the Ip spelling not Yip. Ip Chun has also been overseeing the movie about his father called Ip Man so perhaps its time we respected Ip man son's and used Ip instead of Yip?

I suggest citations be added for the names of Yip Man's students to prove that they are really Yip's students. Exceptions can be made for those students who already have their own articles, such as Wong Shun Leung and Bruce Lee. If we don't, there's a possibility that vandals may add random names for fun, and hence reduce the credibility of this article.
I've doubts about Yip Man alternatively known as "Yeji Q". Does he really have that other name or is that an overlooked mistake? I've removed the Yeji Q name. Why was his title changed from " sifu" to "Gung-Gung"? It doesn't make sense to call him "Gung-Gung", unless you're his grandchild. I've changed it to " Grandmaster", because I think it suits Yip Man more.

It is widely accepted in the world that Ye Wen was the most skillful fighter in the 20th century. He had a strategy that Westerners cannot possibly understand so maybe that is why it is not noted in this article. Also, his bravery in defending China against the Japanese is a well-noted fact of history. Please add these items. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.174.192.202 ( talk) 13:52, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
I am Chinese and I agree that so much false information and rumor. First, Ye Wen is the correct name, maybe some of you should study Chinese a little harder. Second, he was a patriot and many young Chinese admire his bravery against the Japanese. To deny this fact hurts the feelings of millions of Chinese, and Wikipedia needs to respect the Chinese culture. Finally, he was never an officer of the Guomindang. They are traitorous dogs and we will never permit them in China. This sort of rumor is against the regulations of the internet as put forth by the Chinese government. Wikipedia needs to follow the laws. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:C5F7:EB00:FC35:D958:FFB8:E3BA ( talk) 20:46, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

"The main purpose of the Ving Tsun Athletic Association was to help Ip tackle his financial difficulties in Hong Kong,[16] which was said to have caused his supposed regular use of opium."
Shouldn't it be the exact opposite, if the opium habit were true? First the opium and then the financial difficulties? Since I have not the slightest clue how to get a hand at source #16, I am bound to let that weird statement sit in the article for now. I really hope someone can help out with this issue. -- 77.8.132.200 ( talk) 23:55, 9 February 2020 (UTC)

I changed Yip Man’s age when he started Wing Chun from 12 to 13. Indeed, both Leung Ting’s book and kwokwingchun.com mention 13. Yet, I have a small doubt because the initial version mentioned that Yip Man started in 1906. Knowing that Yip Man was born in October, either the starting year and the age are correct and Yip Man started after October, either the starting year is correct and both references are wrong, or the year is wrong. As I did not see any reference for the year, I tend to think that the year is wrong. Grégory Boisset ( talk) 21:14, 28 October 2019 (UTC)
