I formally propose to merge Mantle plume and Plate theory (volcanism) into Intraplate volcanism. Intraplate volcanism was created from the full content of both Mantle plume and Plate theory (volcanism) per this discussion at Wikiproject Geology, where a consensus was reached that having separate pages on two theories that are in tension was undesirable compared with discussing both theories on a single page. See the discussion there for the full reasoning behind this proposal. Although plate theory is probably a minority position within geology, we have identified reliable sources that are "orthodox", so to speak, but nonetheless take plate theory seriously, so it appears that it is by no means a fringe theory.
Although Intraplate volcanism already contains the full content of both articles on the competing theories, we thought it appropriate to go through the formalities of a merge proposal rather than just be bold and replace both child articles with redirects, so that any interested editor who did not participate in the Wikiproject Geology discussion can have an opportunity to chime in before we do the redirection. -- Kent G.
