I created this article as an umbrella for all the hosting related articles. A lot of web hosting service will go here. This is now the lead article of a new series on Internet hosting services. — Quarl ( talk) 2006-01-12 22:41 Z
There is a list of 'limited or application-specific hosting services', including web hosting, but neither this article, nor the web hosting article makes clear what the limitations are. I know that the Web is just a tiny part of the Internet, but I thought it was actually an extension of it, with the addition of links. Or is this a case of being application-specific (and what does that mean then)? Does this have to do with whether a url starts with www, signifying a web server? (which Wikipedia doesn't have, by the way - any reason for that?) DirkvdM 15:56, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
Is it true that both antarctica and greenald have over 100 hosts?
I'm removing this map from the article because it depicts the total number of Internet-connected hosts, including (overwhelmingly?) client systems, not just servers. This article is about hosted servers, not clients. The map is also out of date, and I'm working on updating it. But it still won't be relevant to this article. -- Kbh3rd talk 15:53, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
