The article doesn't give any info on what kind of a unit it is! Is it infantry or cavalry or what? Just saying it was an elite unit is not enough is it?

The Immortals are spoken of by Anna Komnene in the Alexiad. They appear by her accounts to be Infantry and she goes on to say that that a requirment to be an Immortal is to live through at least one battle. —Preceding
