I have removed the the following part as it looked like a poor joke:
Often, this meant that someone in the computer room of a timeshared system could glance at the front panel lights to see how busy the machine was; programmers might use this to decide when to take lunch or coffee breaks.
In Unix-like operating systems such as Linux, the idle task has process ID zero, and never exits. ItWasThatGuy! ( talk) 16:10, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
Neither ps nor top in Linux will show the idle task, so it would be more accurate to change "Most operating systems will display an idle task" to "Most operating systems have an idle task". NT-based Windows is the only one I'm aware of "displaying" it. WubbGmbaa ( talk) 22:26, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
