I might go about restructuring this artcle... there's quite a bit of information around about it, and it deserves more then a stub.
If anybody is keeping watch on this page, could they let me know what exactly we can put in regarding the lyrics? Given the lyrics have been removed already I'll presume we can't just publish them here. I was going to do it to a similar way Waltzing Matilda is done... why can't we put the lyrics up like they did? Is it because of Telstra's ownership?
If so, then insert rude words here.
I'll set about expanding it over the next week or so, when I get some spare time, but if somebody could refer me to copyright rules for lyrics that would be swell. Ta. GreenGopher 23:25, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
Someone added the two verses that Woodley wrote for the National Day of Mourning. I've tidied the section up but am not sure whether having them in the article breaches any copyright laws, etc. Can anyone advise? TheRetroGuy ( talk) 12:31, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
http://blog.australian-native.com.au/2009/07/18/i-am-australian-we-are-australian-song-lyrics/ confirms the authorship and has much other interesting information, but is not a reliable source in terms of policy. Andrewa ( talk) 01:26, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
On 24 December 2006, User:Antipodal (in one of their eight edits total, four relating to this song) changed the Telstra section from "performed by Rai Thistlethwayte" to "performed by Lo-Tel. It is often mistakingly credited to Rai Thistlethwayte, as the vocalists sound very similar."
This has remained apparently unchallenged ever since.
All the provided sources either don't mention an artist, or identify Thistlethwayte.
I'm happy to be proved wrong, but on our current sources, it seems that we've had wrong information on here for over a decade....
(There are now sources out there that say it's Lo-Tel - the problem is that many people use Wikipedia as a source, so ideally we'd need a pre-2006 source, or a definitive one from Telstra. Certainly anything that uses Wikipedia's exact wording is unlikely to be reliable.) TSP ( talk) 14:09, 7 December 2017 (UTC)
