Greetings and felicitations. Where can I find the prefecture level codes in English? E.g., the
Altay Prefecture article's infobox has "CN-XJ-43". —

I don't know where the infobox code of "CN-XJ-43" comes from. As far as I can tell, it's not an
ISO 3166-2 code for China and should probably be deleted. The same issue affects other subdivisions like
Tacheng Prefecture.

After more research I can say that these non-ISO-3166-2 codes were added to various articles in 2018 by suspended
User:CaradhrasAiguo with the comment "Add or Correct
Guobiao standards/ISO-3166-2 codes or use default field (iso_code) using AWB". (For example, Altay's article was updated with
this edit. Because CaradhrasAiguo is blocked indefinitely I can't reach out to them to find out why they used these values. I remain convinced they should be deleted because even if they're valid codes in some Chinese standard they aren't ISO 3166 codes which is how they're presented in the template.
