IPFW Mastodons → Fort Wayne Mastodons – IPFW officially announced in August 2016 that it would change its athletic brand to "Fort Wayne", effective immediately. Since then, the NCAA, ESPN, and CBS Sports have mostly changed to the new brand name; for more details, see discussion on the talk page. IPFW's main conference, The Summit League, has used the "Fort Wayne" branding since 2012 as part of a conference initiative; for details on this issue, see the "Branding" section of the main article.
