This would be a great place for a list of hymns that were in previous editions of the hymn book, but are not in the current one. Anyone want to tackle this? Isaac Crumm 07:09, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
You'll be at this for a while, if you try. I've dedicated an entire website to such as this, and the sheet music for them, and it'll be a while yet before I've done even what you mention here: there are a lot more LDS hymns and hymnals than one would think (certainly more than listed here), and I know there are more than I have listed on my website - especially if you count foreign ones, translations, children's songbooks, and such. They wouldn't fit well in a single article, anyway. There are also important songs not yet known to be in hymnals at all, such as the English version of Song of the Redeemed. I would suggest making a new article for each hymnal, as is done with The Manchester Hymnal. You can find a lot of information on http://www.hymnwiki.org/ about the other hymnals (including lyrics, sheet music, and such for those that are done). Shoreu 02:09, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
How about we move this page to Latter Day Saint hymns since many other Latter Day Saint denominations have used the same hymnals and hymns that have been used by the LDS Church. The stuff pertinent only the LDS Church (the latest hymnal, etc.) can be given its own section. The historical stuff applies to many denominations, as we share a common history. If no one objects, I'll make the move. - SESmith 05:19, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

I believe the table under the heading "1936 hymnal" has incorrect songs in the left column. I'm interested in finding out where that list came from, and if there's a missing puzzle piece somewhere.
The BYU Harold B. Lee Library has 4 or 5 editions of the book. I indexed an edition marked November 1927 and one marked July 1936. I only saw two differences, noted here (hymns 392 and 402 changed their titles): http://singpraises.net/collection/latter-day-saint-hymns/editions?lang=eng&edition=1927&edition=1936&sort=a
I also looked at an edition without a date, that I originally thought was the 1927 first edition, but it turns out that the contents are the same as the July 1936 edition, so I think it must be later. The library also has a December 1928 and March 1940 edition, which I haven't looked at in detail yet, but I don't expect they will be very different.
Is there an earlier 1927 edition (pre-November 1927) that's floating around somewhere? ~Quelquesb ( talk) 03:00, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
The title of this article, along with a provision at MOS:LDS, violates MOS:THEINST, a site-wide guideline which trumps WP:LOCALCONSENSUS.
