While there is secondary coverage of this phraseology, it feels like the article takes liberties to fill in the rest with potential OR or failing that, undue examples. I'm trying to imagine a version of this article about an editorial tic of a particular Western media outlet—and while that theoretical article seems plausible, it would also have more grouchy editors contesting its scope.
