This article shows a lot of promise, but it lacks any significant exploration of the wider impact of the railways on the British economy, such as you would find in most economic histories of the period. The article covers a very long period in the history of the railways, yet doesn't indicate how much railway there was at any given time. Didn't the network reach its maximum extent sometime during this period? What was it?
