– By WP:DEFINITE and WP:CONCISE, the use of "the" should be dropped from these article titles because it simply is not necessary to convey the topic of the article; if anything, the use of the definite article in this case is clunky. For now, we can disregard the "political correctness" argument that using the definite article to refer to ethnic groups in certain cases is "othering" and a social wrong. While I personally think this argument is compelling, the true test of whether referring to "African Americans" with "the" is acceptable can simply be determined by looking at the wider media: In 2019, news articles mentioning "the African Americans" were a very small fraction (1.1%) of articles mentioning "African Americans". By WP:COMMONNAME, the title of the articles should be changed to reflect this usage by the media. Mysterymanblue ( talk) 18:56, 4 June 2020 (UTC)

As two IP editors have recently removed the portal for Baltimore from this article, I thought it would be a good idea to invite a discussion here. I have reverted both of these changes, so my own perspective is clear. I think the article History of African Americans in Baltimore would find relevance from the Baltimore portal. I am curious what the views of other editors here are. -- Sauzer ( talk) 13:28, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
