Hibbing High School deserves at least more discussion here, at least one photo, and possibly an article of its own. I was just at a talk by Greil Marcus this evening, and he got onto the topic of Hibbing for a while (by way of talking about Bob Dylan). He remarked, among other things, that Hibbing High School is probably the most impressive public (in the sense of public-funded) building he's seen in the U.S. outside of Washington D.C., not only for the auditorium mentioned here, but for other aspects of the architecture and for some remarkable (and remarkably well-preserved) murals. Even allowing for some hyperbole, the building is on the National Register of Historic Places, ID #80004351. - Jmabel | Talk 06:24, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
Although there is apparently a Jason R. Loo here in Hibbing (see: http://www.lookupanyone.com/namelistings/jason-loo.html?searchform=name&&PHPSESSID=26a32229ed7f1728643fd278fdb56a37) I don't thing he would agree with this: "Jason Loo, Maple Syrup Taste Tester, Aunt Jemima's nephew. Failed to get on Hell's Kitchen because he's a donkey." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.16.96.147 ( talk) 16:08, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
An editor is really wanting to add Jim Arabanos and Matt Baratto to the list of notable people.
Jim Arabanos is redlinked. He founded AJ Indoor Advertising which "which provides poster ads in clubs, restaurants and elevators" and was bought by Trans Media Group, which also sells outdoor advertising on trucks and buses. I don't know if he's actually from Hibbing and I'm not sure it'd be easy to find out. He's dead.
Matt Baratto is redlinked. He makes and repairs guitars in LA. here's his website. According to the editor his guitars and amps are used by " Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Keith Richards, KISS, Johnny Depp, etc." but it doesn't say that on the website (which you'd think it would) nor anything about amps, so I dunno. I don't know if he's actually from Hibbing and I'm not sure it'd be easy to find out.
For very small towns unlinked people are OK, but Hibbing's not that small, and there're 24 bluelinked people, so I don't know as we need to start in putting in unlinked people. If it was just a matter of nobody having gotten around to writing their article, that'd be one thing, but IMO it's very very unlikely that either of these folks would qualify for an article under WP:GNG.
So on this basis I removed the two names even though that's 2RR which I don't like to do. The editor is invited to make his case here if he wishes. Herostratus ( talk) 19:54, 5 February 2014 (UTC)
( edit conflict)::Right. Even though I made the case above, partly to assist the other editor, I don't really agree with it, because one very good reason for only listing people who have Wikipedia articles (for most localities including Hibbing) is that it's a clear line which avoids arguments; if we start listing people without articles that means lots of case-by-case discussions about who should and shouldn't be on the list. "Has article == in, no article == out" is much easier and saves time and effort. This is a very significant virtue and worthwhile adhering to as a general rule. And so I'm getting the feeling that, judging by their actions, there are three editors (me, and User:Cmr08, and now User:WilliamJE) who'd rather not have these folks in the list and only the one editor wanting to include them, so let's not include them.
