On 25 October 2022, it was proposed that this article be moved from Shahjalal International Airport to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The result of the discussion was moved. |
I've been following up on entries about Kurmitola's (and Shamshernagar Airfield) history as a World War II air base for the Flying Tigers for operations Over the Hump, taking fuel and supplies to Kunming, China from India. For instance, see Charles Woods. There are a few third party website that talks quite descriptively about the use of Kurmitola and Shamshernagar as US Army Air Corps bases. There's a 3rd party website with black and white photos of aircraft at Kurmitola too afaik. I am pretty convinced that Kurmitola refers specifically to present day Zia Int'l Airport, while the predominant airport for Dhaka was otherwise Tejgaon airport till 1981
Similarly (but not sure if this is the right place to discuss it), Feni Airfield (now abandoned) was used by the Royal Air Force / British Army as a base too for separate South-east Asia operations.

Please discuss the possible name change here before moving the article. As it is, a name such as "Hazrat Shahjalal (R) International Airport" seems rather implausible. Thanks, Jasepl ( talk) 03:51, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
According to [3], Government wanted to change names of all institutions named after Ziaur Rahman. I think it was a deliberate attempt to insult Ziaur Rahman and his supporters (nearly 40% of the population when name changing was done) by a vindictive government. The reasoning for name changing was controversial and thus it should have been mentioned in this article for objectivity, neutrality and completeness. According to [4] this renaming would cost Taka 1400 crore - which was not mentioned in this article. I added this information in October, 2010 but my contribution was deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Midasmilton ( talk • contribs) 12:15, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Shahjalal International Airport → Shah Jalal International Airport —
I read in the online newspaper few months ago that the Government of Bangladesh has made the name change of the airport as noted in the subject line of this message. It would be great if widipedia reflects such changes in all the documents it serves.

I would like to update the following:
Bahrain Air - is no longer serving Dhaka China Southern - does not fly to Shanghai (Guangzhou is active)
Air China Cargo - now provides service from Beijing to Dhaka via Chengdu.
I am an aviation enthusiast (planemannyc is my forum name in Airliners.net and the Skyscrapercity forum on Bangladeshi aviation). I am not an over-enthusiast, so I will not put in information that is not based on published reports (and will cite published reports where possible).
I would also like to set up an area on the page for airlines that previously served DAC -
British Airways (and BOAC) Interflug KLM Aeroflot Sri Lankan Air Asia Iran Air Iraqi Airways Afriqiyah Airways Indian Airlines GMG Airlines Air Parabat AeroBengal Best Aviation Burma Airways Oman Air Royal Nepal Airlines Cosmic Air

I find it ridiculous how ArmanJ ( talk · contribs) changed the article name to Shah Jalal International Airport, without any proper reason, and most importantly not discussing about it on the talk page. Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh refers to it as Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
