Awwad fulfills the following requirement: "The person has had a substantial impact outside academia in their academic capacity." ( WP:PROF#7) Awwad founded the Palestinian Section of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, serving as the Middle East advisor. She was a teacher assistant and then she became the Head of the Department of Humanities at Abu Dis college. She also was the cultural advisor for Yasser Arafat. She has done a lot of work around women's empowerment and journalists' work, outside of academia.
