The article currently says the U-94's crew "surrendered quickly". The Maple Leaf article says:

Although they know U-94 is sinking, and the Canadians will not shoot them unless they continue fighting, the submariners surrender very reluctantly, taking so long about it that prisoners and boarding party alike are forced to swim for their lives.
