I am totally certain that general Carl Gustaf Armfelt was not Gustaf Mauritz's father.
I think he was grandfather, or great-uncle.
Gustaf Mauritz's father was, I think to remember, Magnus?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.243.157.114 ( talk) 23:11, 15 July 2004 (UTC)
Someone should make an article or new paragraph describing Armfelts family origin. Not many people know (or care) that Armfelts family didn't descend from Finland but from Jämtland in Sweden. The first Armfelts, if I remember correctly, became either noblemen or "Friherre" in 1648 for bravery and/or service to the crown. Dammit! I should know this stuff. I think I'm gonna go look for some material and maybe write a new article or paragraph. :)

Feel free to do that. The family's ancestry is not at all unusual for noble families of the Swedish realm. There are plenty of "great Finnish patriots" with roots as far away as in Skåne and the Netherlands. It's possible that there are some readers who will object to such a "swedification" of GM Armfelt, but most would probably react as me: "So what?"

His influence in Russia and loyalty to Wasa family led played a major part in convincing the Tsar Alexander that Finland would embrace Russian Tsar, especially if given priviledge of keeping old laws and government.
For Finnish people and Finland as a state, Armfelt is a great man and a Finnish patriot as well as a notorius Gustavian. When the Wasa family was thrown out his second best loyalty was for his home in the Österlandet ie. Finland.

Which Queen Caroline helped Armfelt escape ? Caroline of Ansbach died too early to be helpful. Caroline of Brunswick ? Is there another Queen Caroline ? -- PFHLai 16:59, 2005 Mar 28 (UTC)
