Does anyone know the fonts (both arabic and english) used in the Gulf Air logo?
- Gulf Air uses the commercial font 'Mosquito'

The article seems to imply that there are no flights to anywhere from Abu Dhabi apart from to Muscat or Bahrain when, as far as I am aware, there are still quite a number to regional and longer haul destinations (someone please correct me if i'm wrong). ARTooD2 23:36, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- Gulf Air do not fly to any destination from Abu Dhabi apart from Bahrain and Muscat. This is due to the withdrawl of Abu Dhabi as an owner state in 2005. This was effective with the new summer schedule (2006) which was introduced on the 28th March 2006.

Ah...If they have changed the timetable that will be why. I know Abu Dhabi withdrew it was just that last time I was at AUH there were still a lot of Gulf Air flights but that was in February. ARTooD2 20:42, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

It represented the colours of the original owner states of the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman.
Just recently, didn't Gulf Air have an incident at MNL where an A340 was denied permission to land despite it being low on fuel? You may want to add this to the incidents and accidents section if this were true. -- 124.106.133.97 09:59, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

There is very little mention of the earlier history of GF when it was under BA Associated Companies. When I arrived in Bahrain in approx 1960 it still had the two Doves, but also approx six DC3's. The two Doves were retired and replaced with two Beech Queenair's (B80's). Then we acquired two Fokker Friendships (F27 turboprops), then one BAC 1-11 (our first jet).
The routes I flew were: Bahrain, Doha, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Muscat and back. Also to Dharan and Kuwait City, and to Shiraz.
We also did charter flights for ADPC (Abu Dhabi Petroleum Company) into the Empty Quarter and to Salalah.

Very sorry but I cannot help beyond what I wrote above. I left and joined British Caledonian and my log books referring to that period and after are lost in the sands of the desert. I worked in the the Gulf from 1988 to 1993. I heard rumors of an accidental missle shootdown of a Gulf Airline flight before my arrival in 1988. Perhaps there was a crash which others tried to blame local government oversight but I wondered if anyone had anything to say about this.
During my 5 years of working in the Gulf and Arabia (UAE, Egypt, Kuwait, Jordan, Oman, Saudi) I flew on nearly every local airline and always felt comfortable and relativaly safe.

This page reads like marketing copy in places, especially in the summary paragraphs: " It is certified as a 5-Star COVID-19 Airline Safety Rating by Skytrax, becoming one of just sixteen airlines and the third airline in the world and in the Middle East respectively to achieve this top recognition." 213.246.133.193 ( talk) 17:05, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
There is hardly any mention of the Vickers VC-10, and no pictures whatsoever.
Until 1970, Gulf Air (as Gulf Aviation) was mostly a local regional carrier with a handful of (British-registered) aircraft. From 1970 they timetabled a twice-weekly service to London, but the flights were actually BOAC VC-10s in full BOAC livery, operated & crewed by BOAC.
In 1974 this all changed, with five ex-BOAC VC-10s transferred to full Gulf Air ownership, painted in full Gulf Air livery, initially retaining their British registrations, but later passing on to the Oman (A4O-) register. This allowed a full schedule with flights on every day of the week to London, and also regular services new destinations such as Bombay, Karachi, Amman, Cairo, Beirut and Athens.
Obviously the VC-10s were already towards the end of their commercial lives, and hence a stop-gap measure until the arrival of the first of numerous Lockheed Tristars, first appearing at Heathrow in late 1976. Nevertheless the introduction of these VC-10s (in full Gulf Air livery) represented a major stepping stone for this airline, giving them a far more visible presence on the international stage.

The historical fleet table is currently a mess, full of contradictions. On the one hand, such a table should include everything, good and bad. On the other hand, at least 50% of the entries need some sort of qualification.

And then there are all the really ancient Gulf Aviation types (Dove, Heron, DH86B, DC-3) that have very little connection to Gulf Air as most people know them. Whereas the Fokker F27 & BAC One-Eleven were fully repainted in full Gulf Air colours, and continued to fly for their new owners. This needs further thought.
