The Network Rail Rules of the Plan for the former Great Western Zone [1] gives the following operational platform lengths for Gloucester:
So whilst the total length may be 600+ metres, the operational length is clearly much shorter and, like Cambridge, the "full" length is calculated from the length of two platforms.
For comparison, the lengths given in the Rules of the Plan for the former East Anglia Zone [2] for Cambridge and Colchester are as follows:

I saw a Class 158 in South West Trains livery at Gloucester today. Couldn't see its destination blind as I was sitting on an HST in the other platform. 137.205.171.38 ( talk) 15:57, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
