He is chiefly remembered for being the co-designer (with Sergei Korolev) and directing the development of the Katyusha rocket launcher that was used with such success during World War II.
This seems wrong. It appears that he co-designed the rockets and launch rails used on aircraft, but died before development of the Katyusha artillery launchers began. I'll update this accordingly, but please correct if I have misunderstood. — Michael Z. 2008-08-04 19:41 z
