He became the pope in 2005.
... because it belongs to the article. People who read this article and get to know that Ratzinger gave some "slaps in the face" 30 years ago have the right to know why this is in the article. There is indeed a camgaign going on, and I have cited sources who utter the same opinion. The vatican is even calling it "a conspiracy". Several non-German newspapers have also had articles stating that the German media have launched a campaign against the pope. It almost mirrors last years' campaign ("Williamson-affair"). Proof? These dubious "allegations" are on the front-pages of German newspapers almost every day for weeks now. As I said, it is pretty obvious, the tone of these articles is in general anti-church (along with the general bias of German media all along), and yes many people outside the media have indeed recognized this. I have two citations as references. Some "ip-number"-user is reproaching me with citing sources in German language. Well, what can I say, the "Der Spiegel" sources are also in German language, so here the typical double standards and foul play apply. If somebody can contribute more on this matter (and in English language please, you know only unproofen allegations and other hateful comments from the press are allowed to be in a foreign language..) I'd really appreciate it. Until then I would suggest that we leave the last sentence in for the reader to reconize that there is a controversy about these allegations. I also verbalized it in a very cautious way ("can be seen"). Thanks! -- Calhoun1832 ( talk) 01:00, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
