He's alive and still advising students (or may have stopped advising fairly recently). No source for a birth year but the dates and ages he gives for various events in the Infinite History interview suggest 1926 or thereabouts. As mentioned in the article, he was in the Army Air Corps - there's a bit more detail on this in the interview (page 5 in the PDF).
