The source that claims that Gateway is the largest centre is apparently from a smallish real estate agency - Unless a more reliable source can be found to back the claim up (I've heard claims from various people that Sandton City, Eastgate, and Canal Walk are the largest), the dubious tag will probably have to stay. Gateway is not the largest shopping centre in the Southern Hemisphere. However, it is larger than Sandton City, Eastgate Shopping Centre and Canal Walk. The largest shopping centre in the Southern Hemisphere is Centro Comercial Aricanduva located in Sao Paulo, Brazil which has 247 027m2 of retail floor area. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.110.243.144 ( talk) 18:23, 11 October 2016 (UTC)
Gateway is no longer the largest mall in Africa (or South Africa for that matter) the honour now goes to Menlyn Park in Pretoria as of 2016. Multiple sources confirm this. --

Gateway Theatre Shopping Centre may be the largest shopping centre in Africa, but it is not the largest in the Southern Hemisphere. The centre features 350+ stores on 180,000m2 of land, whilst Chadstone Shopping Centre (in Melbourne, Australia) features 530 stores on 190,000 m2 of retail floor. [1] [2] Chadstone has been the largest since late 2009 [3]
